ABHAY R SATOSKAR
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITYAbhay R Satoskar MD, PhD is a Research Endowed Chair in Pathology and Vice Chair for Research at the Department of Pathology at The Ohio State University. The research in his laboratory is focused on studying the mechanisms of immunity and immune evasion in parasitic diseases, particularly infections caused by kinetoplastid Leishmania. He is serves on panels of several US and international funding bodies and on the editorial boards of many journals. He is a pathologist with broad background in immunology and infectious diseases, with specific training and expertise in parasite immunology, vaccine discovery and the development and implementation of novel therapies for leishmaniasis in endemic regions in Africa, Middle East, Asia and Latin America. As the principal investigator on several grants funded by NIH and international organizations such as Wellcome Trust UK and GHIT Japan he is currently leading team of investigators from USA, Canada, Africa and Asia which has led to development of a live attenuated vaccine for leishmaniasis, which expected to be first in human in 2023.
