Título

Molecular and clinical analysis of LMP1 gene of the Epstein Barr virus in individual with infectious mononucleosis in the metropolitan area of Belém, Brazil”

Introdução

Introducion: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a gamma human herpesvirus that primarily infects B cells and epithelial cells. EBV is the primary cause of infectious mononucleosis. LMP1 gene as principal oncoprotein the of Epstein Barr vírus (EBV) is essential for transformation, proliferation cell, survival, apoptotic resistance e immune modulation.

Objetivo (s)

Objetive: Describe the characteristics of EBV LMP1 and their relationship to sex and clinical manifestations.

Material e Métodos

Material and Methods: Descriptive study in which we analyzed 76 serological samples positive for EBV IGM/VCA antibodies from individuals of both genders aged between 2 and 66 years (mean=22.9 years), referred to the Unified Medical Care Sector of the Evandro Chagas Institute (SOAMU/IEC), using the nested-PCR technique, the LMP1 region of EBV to amplifique 498 pb.

Resultados e Conclusão

LMP1 was identified by nested-PCR in 27,6 % (21/76) of individuals with positive infectious mononucleosis, where 61,9% (13/21) were female and 38.1% (8/21) were male. The cases originated from the municipalities of Belém with positive rates of 76.2% (16/21) and Ananindeua with 23.8%. The main symptoms/signs descrited with LMP1/EBV infection were fever (61,9%, 13/21), cervical lymphadenopathy (91,7%, 11/12), headache (14,3%, 3/21), arthralgia and exanthema (9.5%, 2/21) of the cases investigated in the area metropolitan in Belem, Brazil. Conclusion. The circulation of EBV associated with the oncogenic potential of the LMP1 protein deserves attention to avoid new injuries associated with EBV.
